1861 The 18th Missouri Infantry was organized at Laclede, MO 7/61 to 11/61. It was first in combat at Shiloh, Tenn (4/6/62) and was then on duty at Corinth, and at other points in N. Mississippi and W. Tenn., guarding railroads, etc. until 4/64. After a furlough, the regiment fought in the Atlanta Campaign (5/64 to 9/64); participated in the March to the Sea (11/10/64 to 12/11/64); followed by the siege of Savannah, then moved northward into the Carolinas where it ended the war. It marched in the Grand Review at Washington on 5/24/65, then moved to Louisville, Ky in early June. It mustered out at Louisville 7/18/65 having lost 81 killed and mortally wounded and 164 by disease or accidents. ---from e-mail from Brian Brown, 3/5/1993


In letter from Jack Bridges Farmer, dated 4/6/1994, Jack describes a banner he has about the 18th MO Volunteers Company B, which mentions Pvt. Henry Bridges, Pvt William Bridges who died 4/5/1862 in Cario, Illinois, Pvt Francis Bridges who died 11/61 at Laclede, MO, Pvt Brantley Ogle who was taken prisoner 4/6/1862 at Shiloh, and Pvt James Lewis who was taken prisoner at Corith on 10/2/1862."
