Ancestor of the Australian branch of the Archdale family.

HENRY ARCHDALL (younger son of William Archdall and Henrietta Gonne, and brother of the antiquary), born in 1724, was a goldsmith in Darby Square, Dublin, for some years. He is mentioned as a coin collector in the preface to James Simon's Essay on Irish Coins, published in 1749. He was a member of the Committee for the restoration of St. Werburgh's Church after the fire of 1754, and served as Churchwarden in 1764. Afterwards, he moved to St. Michan's parish, and was appointed Inspector to the Trustees of the Linen Manufacture. From October 1773 to March 1780, he managed all the money matters of the Linen Board. He became a Member of the Dublin Society, and died in 1790 or 1791.

Henry Archdall married firstly, in 1752, Anne, only daughter of Joseph Fuller. She died, July 31st 1773, as the result of a carriage accident, and was buried at Lusk. Her children were baptised at St. Werburgh's, and died young. He married secondly, Elizabeth Kelly, who is said to have been of the family of Castle Kelly, Co. Roscommon. By her he left five sons :—

  • 1. The Rev. WILLIAM ARCHDALL of Wexford.
  • 2. The Rev. HENRY ARCHDALL of Waterford.
  • 3. JOHN ARCHDALL, born in 1779, and died without issue in 1834 ; having married Matilda, daughter of Capt. Oakley, R N.
  • 4. MERVYN ARCHDALL, born in 1782, and died in 1802.
  • 5. FREDERICK ARCHDALL, born in 1785, and died in 1800.
