Some highlights:
Jacob Crum, John's father, was already a widower (Susan Nazor Crum died in 1887) when John and Etta were married on July 4, 1889, in Crawford County, Ohio. John and Etta's first child, George, was born in 1889 in Crawford County.
John and his brother, Samuel Moses, and their families moved to Odgen, Utah. Both families had children born there (Clyde in 1892, John & Etta's son; and Daniel Orcenus in 1893 and Bertha in 1895, children of Samuel Moses and his wife, Dora Straub). The family is not certain why the brothers moved to Utah but believe that John worked on the Morman Tabernacle. Both families returned to Ohio where additional children were born.
Etta and John's last three children were born in Crawford County: William "Bryan," in 1898; Alice in 1900; and Martha in 1905.
According to his obituary, Jacob Crum went blind and became feeble in his old age and lived with his son and daughter-in-law for many years. Jacob is listed as a member of John and Etta's household in the 1900 & 1910 U.S. Census. He died in 1918. This must have been a challenging time for Etta as she cared for her father-in-law as she was raising her own family.
Clyde married in 1914. George married around 1917 (and later divorced). Alice married in 1919. And Bryan married in 1921 but he must have been living away from home at the time of the 1920 U.S. Census.
In the 1920 U.S. Census, 29-year-old son, George, his wife, Elizabeth, and their two young children (Royal and Lucille) were living with John and Etta, along with 14-year-old daughter, Martha.
Martha left home in 1922 when she eloped.
George died in 1929 after a protracted illness. He lived at home with John and Etta during his illness.
John and Etta were living by themselves at the time of the 1930 U.S. Census.
John died in 1937, after having come into financial difficulties which resulted in losing the farm. (The mortgage on the farm was purchased by son, Bryan.)
Etta lived for a time in her former home, then spent time living in the homes of others that she cared for as well as with various family members. In 1940 she was living with her sister, Martha, and brother-in-law, Scott Hartz. When she died in 1962, she was living with her daughter, Alice Pry.
Etta died August 13, 1962, at the Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelby, Ohio. She was 91.

She and her husband were interested in family genealogy and took trips together in their pursuit to research the family line. Martha wrote many notes, several of which are now in the collection of her granddaugther-in-law, Rebekah Carlisle.

Line 4: Faulkner, Isabelle, March 28, 1871, Ohio, Crawford, Auburn [twp.], Wm. Falkner & Mary E. Blackman, residing in Augurn Tp., Crawford Co., Ohio. If the parents are William Henry Faulkner & Mary Elizabeth Blackman, then this "Isabelle" is probably Henrietta "Etta." No record of birth for Etta has been found. Her certificate of death lists her DOB as 27 Sep 1870. As it would not be possible for Mary Elizabeth to deliver a baby five months after giving birth, to Henrietta "Etta," RC is is speculating that this Isabelle is actually Henrietta "Etta," & that perhaps the date is the date of baptism.
In William Henry Faulkner's obituary 9 children are listed & it is noted that "Clara" died in infancy. As there is no mention of an Isabelle dying in infancy, and no other records of a daughter named Isabelle born to Wm. H. & M.E., RC believes this supports the possibility that the Isabelle of this citation is actually Henrietta "Etta."
There are many variations of Henrietta, including Etta & Hanna E. rc
