HENNING -- Helen Kathryne Haugen, 69, Henning, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. She was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Lankin, N.D., to Anton E. and Helen (Kalash) Kalal. She moved with her family to Ottertail when she was 10. She received her elementary education in Ottertail, continuing at Perham High School, where she was active in class plays and was a cheerleader. She moved to Minneapolis after graduation and was employed at Walgreen's and later for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. She married Virgil Haugen on March 1, 1952, in Minneapolis. They lived on their farm at Leaf Lakes Township near Henning. She worked for Dilly's Grocery in Henning, the Wadena National Guard, Ray Tibbett's Accounting in Wadena, the Henning Lanes, Homecrest Furniture in Wadena, the Henning Hatchery and the Four Seasons Motel and Lounge in Wadena. She stopped working Aug. 24, 1994, because of her health. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was active in the Circle and was a Sunday school teacher. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Virginia "Jinny" Haugen, Baxter; a son, Danny Haugen, Milpitas, Calif.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Lucy Brutlag, St. Paul. Her parents; and a sister, Georgia, died earlier. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning with Pastor Roger Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Leaf Lakes Norderhaugen Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. at the Belmont Funeral Home in Henning and an hour before services Tuesday at the church. References
