Immigration to Germanna Colony

Henerich Schluchter and his family are listed among the second group of settlers to Germanna Colony in Virginia in April 1717:
  • Heinrich Schlucter, 20, came with Fleischmann family, he married Sarah Fleischman, daughter of Cyriachus Fleischmann.
  • There is no evidence that Heinrich Schluchter was married to Sarah Fleischman. This suggestion comes from early Germanna researcher, Arthur Leslie Keith who theorized that Sarah must have been a daughter of Cyriacus Fleischman because of the circumstances surrounding a land sale to Heinrich Schluchter. Cyriacus was Heinrich's step father, married to Heinrich's mother, Anna Barbara Schone. Any child of Cyriacus and Anna Barbara would have been a half-sister to Heinrich and he would never have married his half-sister. There is no evidence that a person named Sarah Fleishman even existed. Heinrich's wife's given name was Sarah, but her surname is unknown.

[Orange County Virginia Deed Book 2, Dorman, pg. 40]. (Note: Ziriachus (Cyriacus) Fleischman was the father (step-father) of Heinrich Schlucter).

Information on Heinrich Schluchter

It is probable that Heinrich Schuster that is listed in the 2nd Germanna Colony Families is an older brother (at age 20 in 1717) to Elizabeth Schuster, that married Johannes Stinecipher (Stonecipher).

  • Heinrich Schluchter was the the only child of Johan Jacob Schluchter and Anna Barbara Schone. Johan Jacob Schluchter died when Heinrich was a year old. Anna Barbara later married Cyriacus Fleischman. There is no evidence to suggest a relationship between Schluchter and Schuster.
