Facts and Events
He graduated from the Story City High School in 1914. On June 19, 1918, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, from which he was honorably discharged June 20, 1919. He was located most of the time at Hampton Roads, Va., and attained the rank of first class seaman. He was taken sick with the flu while in service. Then while on a boat to the Azore Islands he had a "double watch" during a storm, and was stricken with pleurisy. He died from tuberculosis June 29, 1925, and was buried at Story City, Iowa.
