From the February 25, 1990, edition of the Postville (IA) Herald Harold Schroeder Harold William Schroeder was born January 31, 1912 in Clayton County, Iowa, to parents William and Rose Holly Schroeder. He was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church February 19, 1912, and confirmed August 28, 1925, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona. He received his education in the area rural schools. On February 22, 1938, Harold was united in marriage to Florence Hamann at St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage in Monona. They had 2 sons. The couple farmed in the Monona area until retiring in 1967. They remained living on the farm. Harold died Saturday, July 21, 1990, at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, WI. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, where he served on the council and as a deacon, Northeast Iowa Telephone Co. Board and the Luana School Board. Preceding him in death were his twin sister Harriet Bacon. Surviving is his wife, Florence; 2 sons, Jerry of Luana and Larry of Monona; 2 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gladys Bruehahn of McGregor and Vivian Scheffert of Luana. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 24, 1990, at 11 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana. Pastor Ted Ager officiated. Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald Bacon, Walter Bruehahn, Jim Duvel, Gary Gress, Delbert Scheffert and Norman Mueller. Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of arrangements. ____________________________
On February 22, 1938, Harold was united in amarriage to Florence Hamann at St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage in Monona. To this union two sons were born. The couple farmed in the Monona area until retiring in 1967. They remained living on the farm. Harold died Saturday, July 21, 1990, at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, where he served on the council and as a deacon, Northeast Iowa Telephone Co. board and the Luana school board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and card playing. Preceding him in death were his parents and twin sister, Harriet Bacon. Surviving is his wife, Florence; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Mary Schroeder of Luana and Larry and Anna Schroeder on Monona; six grandchildren, Ethan, Jared, April and Bettina, Jay and Jyl; two sisters, Gladys Bruehahn of McGregor and Vivian Scheffert, Luana.
