Harland P. Kottman,69, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, in St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona. Survivors include his wife, LaVon; three daughters, Sheila (Mrs. C.H.) Wendel of Amana, and Julie Wiedenmann and Lisa (Mrs. David) Wille, both of Monona; six grandchildren; and a brother, Gary of Monona. Born Dec. 22, 1927, in Giard Township of Clayton County, he was the son of LeRoy and Alice Lestina Kottman. On June 15, 1949, he married LaVon Froning. Harland farmed until 1962 and worked at Hygrade Food Products in Postville.

Funeral services for Harland Kottman were held Friday, August 8, 1997, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Monona, with Pastor Elwin D. Farwell. Music was provided by organist Mrs. Connie Halvorson and acolytes were Lindsay Wagner and Teresa Reeg. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Monona.

Harland Paul Kottman, son of LeRoy and Alice (Lestina) Kottman, was born December 22, 1927, in Giard Township near Monona. He was baptized February 28, 1928, by Rev. Dauge and confirmed on January 10, 1943, by Rev. Siefkes at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona. He received his education in the rural school and Monona High School.

On June 15, 1949, Harland was united in marriage to LaVon Froning at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. Schleuter. To this union, three daughters were born.

A life long resident of the Monona area, Harland farmed for many years, later working at Hygrade Food Products in Postvile. He was also active in the restoration of the historic store and schoolhouse in Froelich.

Harland enjoyed being with his family, playing baseball and softball, hunting, fishing and traveling.

Harland died Monday, August 4, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, LaVon, three daughters, Sheila and husband C.H. Wendel of Amana, Julie Wiedenmann of Monona, and LIsa and husband Dave Wille of Monona, six grandchildren, Craig, Blaine and Allyssa Martins, Jamie Wiedenmann, Stephanie and Andrew Wille, one brother, Gary Kottman of Monona, two aunts, Hazel Blumhagen of Postville and Florence Lucas of Prairie du Chien, WI, and many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Norbert Lembke, Ron Hill, Charles Fick, Lawrence Lotza, Charles Brau, Robert Melcher, Dan Schweikert and Lorraine Lenth.
