That Joseph Merriam had a daughter named Hannah is supported by two sources:

  1. She is listed as "dau of Joseph Merriam" in the 1637 will of Robert Goldston, brother of Joseph's wife Sara. See NEHGR 50 (1896):507.
  2. A Hannah Taylor appears on the 1681 will of Robert Merriam (NEHGR 22(1868):160-161), transcribed here. But that will does not distinguish which father-- Joseph or George.

(Note: A Hannah is not listed among the Joseph's children in Historic Homes and Institutions..., by Ellery Bicknell Crane, Volume 4, p 19.)

Important: Both Joseph and George Merriam (brothers) had daughters named Hannah. Current theory is that

  1. Hannah, dau of Joseph, married John Buss
  2. Hannah, dau of George, m1 Henry Axtel; m2 William Taylor of Marlborough (not William Taylor of Concord).
