Overview

Hamilton Cowan was born in County Armagh, North Ireland, in the townland of Derrycorr, Tartaraghan Civil Parish, about 1805. He married Eliza Greenaway in Augusta of 1830. The couple immigrated to Canada in 1836 ^[1]. Here they settled in Grey County, Ontario. Hamilton died in Euphrasia Township, Grey County, in 7 November 1888. The couples children either remained in Ontario or settled in Detroit Michigan.

My great grandfather was Hamilton Cowen. Born 1805 in Derrycorr Townland, Tartaraghan Paries, County Armagh, Ireland. Died Nov.7,1888 in Euphrasia Township,Gray County, Ontario, Canada. Immigrated to Canada 1836. He married Eliza Greenaway, August 1830, Born 1805 in same area as Hamilton Cowen dIed June 1885. His father was Thomas. Mother ? Mary. No other details The next generation after Hamilton remained in Ontario or Detroit MI. Hamilton Cowen was a Protestant in and otherwise Catholic Country. It is reasonable to assume that my ancestors were among the English or Scots planted in Ireland about 1609 by James 1 after the Irish rebellion of 1594.
