Haigh Howard lived all his life in Holme village, iiving in and operating Mount Farm which was passed down from his father James Howard, later moving to nearby Lane Farm, and then passing it on it to his son James Howard. Haigh's great grandson and great great grandsons operate the farm today [2012].

As noted in the Holme Valley Express article he was popular and respected, serving 37 years on the Local council, 12 years as its Chairman.

His mother was born Mary Haigh which explains his first name. Haigh was not the eldest son. His elder brother Arthur died in his 20s.
