"He graduated from Dartmouth College in class of 1843, studied at Lane's Theological Seminary for one year and completed his professional studies at Andover, studying at the Theological Seminary, and at the same time acting as assistant teacher in Phillip's Academy. In Nov. 1854, he was installed as pastor of the Congregational church in Kalamazoo, Mich., remaining there for two years. At his request be was dismissed, that he might return to Andover, as instructor at Phillip's Academy. In Aug. 1357, he was persuaded to again devote himself to the ministry. He took charge of a church in Kennebunk, ME, where he remained till failing health obliged him to leave the work he loved.He was a finished scholar, a successful teacher, an able minister, consistent and earnest Christian. Julia Harlow Wardwell was a graduate of the Female Institute at Gorham, Me., and as a pastor's wife was much esteemed as a devoted earnest Christian, modest and unassuming in her deportment, with highly cultivated mind, sincere and generous heart, surviving her husband only a few years, was sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends at her death, leaving at orphan." -Antecedents of Solomon Wardwell Elizabeth Wardwell Stay "Rev. Granville Wardwell, born in Nelson, December 7, 1819, lived in Sullivan during most of his youth. He graduated at Dartmouth College in 1848. He studied divinity at Lane Seminary, Walnut Hill, Ohio, one year, and also at the Andover Theological seminary, where he graduated in 1853. He was ordained as an evangelist at Sullivan, October 19, 1853, at the same time that Rev. E.A. Wood, was ordained. He preached at Kalamazoo, Mich., from 1853 to 1855. From 1855 to 1857 he taught in the Philips Andover academy, in which institution he had also taught during his theological studies in 1851 to 1853. He preached at Kennebunk, Me., in 1857-58, and afterwards moved to Westminister West, Vt., where he died June 24, 1858. Rev. Ezra Wardwell, his brother, lived temporarily in Sullivan, but was never considered a resident of the town. -Gazetteer of Cheshire County, N.H., 1736-1885 "June 24, 1858, Rev. Granville Wardwell, a former resident of the town, hanged himself at Westminster West, Vt. He was afflicted with insanity, which was the explanation of the act. Mr. Wardwell was a bright, scholarly man, a college graduate, and a preacher of the Trinitarian Congregational denomination." -History of the Town of Sullivan, New Hampshire "Rev.
