Granville Armstrong Torbett didn't die in 1884. He died 22 Oct 1912 in Tom Green Co., Texas. His second wife was Frankie Tucker not Ida Maxwell. I have Granville's application for a Confederate Civil War pension and Frankie's application for continuation of that pension after his death.

My husband is descended from William C. Torbett Granville's son from his first marriage to Ardenia Halley. William submitted an affidavit for his step-mother Frankie when she applied to continue Granville's pension.

From Gary Torbett 8-27-2003: Granville A. was a Captain of H Company, 19th Arkansas infantry, and he fought in engagements at Oak Hills, Missouri, Elk Horn, and Post of Arkansas, Arkansas, as well as many minor skirmishes. I believe he was also at Appamattox with General Lee at the surrender. As the attachment reflects, Granville A. basically had two families. His first wife, Ardenia Elizabeth Halley, died October 18, 1884, in Jones, TX. His second wife (my grandmother) was Frankie E. Tucker, who died January 31, 1928, in Burkett, TX. Frankie was the widow of one of Granville A's men who was killed while serving in his command.

I have Granville's Civil War Pension file. He served the entire Civil War west of the Mississippi, primarily in Arkansas and Louisiana. He was not in Virginia of General Lee's surrender.
