She was born Grace Maureen Shipman on July 18, 1913 in Granby, Newton County, Missouri. Her parents were Thomas and Della (Delida) Shipman. She lived most of her life in Hockerville, OK, moving to Baxter Springs, KS, then to Miami, OK about 30 years ago.

She worked for a number of years as a nurse's aid at Eastwood Manor Nursing Home in Miami. She was a member of the Baptist church in Hockerville.
