    Dr. G. E. Noggle, county health officer, has returned from Roseberry, where he went to attend Kay Scott, whom he found ill with smallpox. The doctor quarantined the house and also closed the public school for two weeks, as the teacher, Miss Effie Scott, had been an inmate of her brother's home.

    In February or March of 1904, David Garrett Scott and family arrived at the end of the Ore. Short Line Rail Road, at Meridian, Idaho. The snow was so deep that winter that they couldn't get teams and wagons over the roads to Long Valley until June. However, Burt and G. K., went up earlier by horseback to scout around. Later, they both took up homesteads near present day Lake Fork.

    Before Railroad arrived (reaching McCall in 1914), Burt and G. K. did some freighting by team & wagon to Boise Valley. Going down, hauling rough lumber and sacks of oats (Horse feed) it took 3 days. Coming back, uphill, hauling salt, sugar, coffee, nails, and various supplies, it took 6 days.
    In 1916 G. K. Scott had just recently taken over the half of the McDougal-Scott store in Roseberry, which was part of his father D. G. Scott's estate. Kay and McDougal dissolved partnership and Kay started the Scott Mercantile across the street.
