At the time of the 1930 census, Gertrude was living in San Francisco, California, with her daughter, Mary L. Bassel and husband, Joe R. Davis, and their two sons.

INFORMATION TAKEN FROM TEXAS DEATH CERTIFICATE Gertrude Straughan Bassel was born in Palo Pinta, Texas on December 21, 1878 to Jack Straughan and Martha Cowden, from Indiana and Texas, respectively. She was living for the previous 18 months at the home of her daughter, Elizabeth Bassel Crosby, 508 Pecan, Gilmer, Upshur County, Texas. The widow had been living in Stevenville, Texas prior to that time. Mrs. Bassel had slipped on the floor of the home, on October 12, 1948, fracturing her neck and left femur. Surgery was performed on November 29, 1948 on her leg. She had suffered from paralysis agitans for about 20 years, but cause of death was from respiratory injection/hypostatic pneumonia, after 2 weeks. Gertrude died on February 2, 1949, at the age of 70 years 2 months 22 days. The body was removed the same day by funeral director Thomas E. Cook, of Stevenville.
