Ins.~~ [gravestone inscription is clearly "1779"]) ; he d. 17 Sept., 1772, ae. 80.—Weth. Ins. 'Last Tuesday, at a very advanced age, Capt. Gershom Nott, formerly a very noted sea-captain.'—Conn. Courant, 22 Sept., 1772; his tombstone terms him 'an Eminent and respectable Sea-Captain.'"
