GERALD LEON RECTOR was born on April 28, 1930 in Milford Township, Barton County, Missouri.

Leon attended Doylesport School, Milford School, and Lamar Senior High School. He graduated from Lamar Senior High School in May 20, 1948. He was ranked 6th in his class of 59.

Upon graduating from high school, Leon joined the United States Air Force. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas and also in Illinois. He was attached to the 1256th AT Sq, 1700th ATG. He served 3 years, 9 months in the United States Air Force.

Leon became a Christian and was baptized in December 1, 1952. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Nevada, Missouri. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, and Royal Ambassador Director.

After returning from the Air Force, he worked for his brother, Orville, as an auto mechanic in Lamar, Missouri. He later worked as an automobile mechanic for Wysong Motors, Nevada, Missouri from 1953 to 1956. He was also employed as a watch repairman for King's Jewelry, Nevada, Missouri from 1956 to 1972.

Leon married WANDA MARIE FITCHPATRICK, the daughter of EARL MORGAN FITCHPATRICK and LENNA HELEN QUADE, on March 20, 1953 in Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri. Leon and Wanda were married by Reverand Roy Dinkins, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Nevada, Missouri. They were married at the First Baptist Church parsonage located on Cherry Street. Loren and Katherine Rector stood with them as their witnesses.

Leon and Wanda lived on Walnut Street in Nevada, Missouri for a few months immediately after they were married. They later moved to 904 North Washington Street in the summer of 1953. They lived in an apartment owned by Frank Wysong.

The couple later moved to 1034 South Cedar Street in Nevada, Missouri during the winter of 1954. The cost of their home was $4,500.00. Their monthly payments were $75.00.

Leon later moved to 314 Clay Street, Nevada, Missouri. He built a new home at 512 North Prewitt, Nevada, Missouri and moved there in 1966.

Leon enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Leon died from a brain tumor on January 1, 1972 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He is buried in Howell Cemetery, Milford Township, Barton County, Missouri.

    Gerald Leon Rector, 41, 512 North Prewitt, died Saturday at 11:50 p.m. at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He had been ill for several weeks. He was born April 28, 1930, at Milford, Missouri, the son of Ola Eldon and Marie Angeline Harris Rector. He was married on March 20, 1953, at Nevada to Wanda Marie Fitzpatrick, who survives of the home.

    He was affiliated with the Calvary Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent and was active in the Royal Ambassadors. He was employed at Wysong Motors before working at King's Jewelry for 14 years.

    Survivors include two sons, Phillip Wayne and Bruce Eric, both of the home; two brothers, Orville Rector of Neosho and Loren Rector of Nevada; and his mother, Mrs. Annie Rector of Lamar.

    Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will be in Howell Cemetery at Milford under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home. The Rev. John Nichols and Rev. J. I. Willard will officiate.

    Rector Services

    Services for Gerald Leon Rector who died Saturday were held this morning at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Nichols and the Rev. J. I. Willard officiating.

    Soloist Rev. Lon Brown sang "God Be With You", "Does Jesus Care," and "How Great Thou Art," Mrs. Chester Whitehead was organist.

    Pallbearers were Oscar Steve, Roy Crossland, Leo Weatherly, Dean Henry, Bryan Hawkins, and Bob Kemper.

    Honoary pallbearers were Dale Culbertson, Don Shilling, Estil Jackson, Ronnie Jones, Everett Bright, Dale Phipps, Leon Dixon, Bill Carlini, Grover Judd, nick Lathrop, Fred Doerge, and Ed Nolin. Internment was in Howell Cemetery, Milford, under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home.
