George Taylor was born in Birmingham, England in 1882. The family was then residing at 26 Gooch St. 4 Court, where his father William Taylor was a Whip Thong Maker. At the time of his marriage in 1906, George was also a Whip Thong Maker, living at 11 Frank St., Birmingham, which appears to be in the same area of the city as Gooch St.

George and his wife Mary Jane Robson emigrated to Canada about 1910. A George and Mary Taylor, born in England who immigrated to Canada in 1910 appear on the census on the outskirts of Toronto, working on a farm as servants. They later settled in Toronto.
