    Ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren (the "Dunkards"). His family were prominent landowners and members of the Church of England; family tradition is that they disowned him when he joined the Brethren, probably after he married Sarah Craycraft (whose family were prominent members of the Church).

    1757, Fairfax County, Virginia: Released from an apprenticeship.
    1779, Hampshire County, Virginia: Witnessed a deed.
    1782-94, Hampshire County, Virginia: Involved in a number of land transactions in the Cacapon Valley.
    1785, Charles County, Maryland: Relinquished his rights in the estate of his grandmother, Elizabeth Dent Tarvin (d. 1759).
    c.1794: Migrated to Fleming County, Kentucky, with wife and 12 children, plus a number of members of his congregation; probably preached at Log Union Church.
    1796, Mason County, Kentucky: Granted permission to perform marriages in Kentucky.
    1798: Sold the rest of his land in Hampshire County, Virginia.
    c.1809: Migrated to Bracken County, Kentucky.

    Rev. George was born about 1744 in Charles County, Maryland, to second generation Americans who were prominent land owners in Southern Maryland, near Port Tobacco. His ancestors were members of the Church of England, which, along with the Catholic Church, was prominent in early Maryland.
