George Swallow was born on 15th December 1816 at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, son of Sarah Swallow, formerly Hopkins, and her husband William Swallow, a labourer. The family lived at Hollybush, a row of cottages near the hamlet of Mackerye End to the west of Wheathampstead. Sadly, George died when he was only about 16 months old, being buried at Wheathampstead on 24th April 1818.
