From USGenweb: [1601] George Davidson Sherrill enlisted in Captain Robert Patton's Company and enlisted again when he substituted for Jacob Peake in Col. Charles McDowell's Regiment of Horse. He volunteered again, after he had moved to what is now Tennessee, in Col. John Sevier's Mounted Volunteers and served in the Battle of Kings Mountain. He volunteered again to go against the Cherokees under Col. Sevier and Maj. Jonathan Tipton. He marched to Highwassee. Note: George D. Sherrill was a son of Samuel Sherrill and a brother of Cahterine Sherill, "Bonny Kate," who married Col. John Sevier as his second wife. References
