George RENICK was born in 1675 at Enniskillen, Fermanagh, North Ireland.[1] He married circa 1700, Margaret (––?––); based on Abingdon Church records and the birth of their first child.[2] He died before 6 Feb 1737 at Paxtang township, Lancaster (now Dauphin) county, PA, when the Administration Bond was filed on his estate.[3] An inventory of his estate was filed on 25 Jan 1737/38 by Hugh Torrance and James Crawford.[4]

He immigrated circa 1719 to Philadelphia county, PA, from Ulster with his sons William, Thomas, and Robert and daughter Elizabeth.[5] On 25 Jan 1730/31, George was granted 1000 acres near the Susquehanna by James Logan, Secretary to William Penn. His sons Robert, William, and Thomas warranted the propery in 1738, but apparently George never did.

"An Early Settler on the Susquehanna: Whereas George Renick, late of Iniskillen, having about eleven years since arrived in the province with the first settlers of Donegal, yet has never obtained leave to settle on any of the proprietor's lands, without which leave he never would presume to attempt it, and being now desirous that himself and three sons, William, Thomas, and Robert and his son-in-law, Robert Polke, might be allowed to settle down on some tract together in one neighbourhood, I therefore think it advisable that pursuant to his request he and his said sons and son-in-law be suffered to enter on the quantity of one thousand acres, near Susquehanna, between Sohataroe and Pextan, and that the same may be marked out to him and his said sons in a regular tract by the surveyor of Lancaster county or his order at the said George's charge, upon this express condition, that he and his said sons and son-in-law shall comply with such terms as shall be proposed by the proprietors or their agents, when lands in those parts shall be granted, or other wise shall quietly quitt the same. Dated at Stenton, the 25th day of January, 1730-1. JAMES LOGAN".[6]

Research Notes: In 1711, A George and Martha Renick were members of the Abington Twp Presbyterian Church along with a Sara Renick. Whether this was our George or perhaps his son is unclear. George did NOT have a brother named Thomas, as some research (including Egle) suggests.[7] There is nothing to support the belief that the family originated in Germany as 'RHINEWICKS.'[8]

Children of George1 Renick and Margaret (––?––), probably all born in North Ireland, were:

i. ELIZABETH RENICK was born in 1701. She married on 2 Jan 1724, at Abington Presbyterian Church, Montgomery county, PA, Robert Polke.[11]

ii. WILLIAM RENICK, b. circa 1704; m. Mary Dugan.

iii. THOMAS RENICK, b. 1710.

iv. ROBERT RENICK, was born in 1715.[12] He married circa 1741, Elizabeth (Betsy) Archer; children: Nancy (m. John? VINCENT), William (m. Sarah HAMILTON; mentioned in the 1788 will of Andrew Hamilton in Augusta co, VA), Joshua (m. into an Indian family and became a chief), Thomas (m. Phoebe), Margaret 'Peggy' (m. George KINCAID), Robert (killed by Indians), Robert (born while his mother was in captivity; m. Letitia Wells DALTON), and Betsy (died in captivity).[13] He was killed on 25 Jul 1757 at Augusta county, VA, by a band of about 60 Shawnee who took his wife and children captive.[14]
