n.d. “George Ormsby lived on the north 50 acres and soon after bought an additional 50 acres adjoining to the north. George Ormsby’s log house and barn were in the middle of the big field, south of the present barn. Two smaller frame houses were built alongside to the south of the main house. Emma and Dick Metcalfe lived in one while he taught at Leigh’s Corners. The veteran’s wife lived in the other house” (p. 286)

1860 “Ormsby operated a saw mill on a creek, Lot 14, Conc 12., Oro, in the early 1860s. The lumber was cut as this mill to build the Temperance Hall in 1864. This mill was bought by George Brown in 1866.”

1871 Canadian Census Index George Ormsby 49, a Farmer born in Ireland lived in Oro, Simcoe North, Ontario. He was a Congregationalist.

1881 Canadian Census George Ormsby 59, a Farmer born in Ireland lived in Oro Township, Simcoe, Ontario with his wife Jane 52, born in Ireland and their children Emma 21, Margaret E. 19, Sarah A 16. Alfred 14, Arthur 12 and Ida M. 9, all born in Ontario. Their religion was Independent.

1884 News of the Churches Rugby has also lost a much respected member - Mr. George B. Ormsby, who died very suddenly recently. (The Canadian Independent, p. 44)
