Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

• Page 35.--Patent to George Moffett 1st March, 1773.

• Page 188.--5th July, 1773. William Moffett, farmer, to George Moffett, on Jenning's Creek, part of 400 acres patented to Daniel McNare and by him conveyed to Thomas Gardner, now dect., and is since become the property of said William Moffett by marrying the daughter of said Gardner who was heir-at-law to said land.

• Page 244 - George Moffett, 160 acres, Jennings Branch. Adjoining Daniel McOnails (or McAnails [sic. s/b McNare]), John Beard. February 9, 1775. [Abstract of Land Grant Surveys, 1761-1791, Augusta & Rockingham Counties, Virginia, by Peter Cline Kaylor, pg. 86].

• Page 315.--30th September, 1775. Mary Moffett, widow of William Moffett. deceased, late of County of Fincastle, to George Moffett. Mary Moffett. late Mary Gardner, only daughter and heir-at-law of Thomas Gardner, deceased, was seised of tract on Jennings' Branch, and during her coverture conveyed same to George Moffett, and William executed deed to George; now Mary executes deed to George; part of 400 acres patented to Daniel McNare and by him conveyed to Thomas Gardner, 11th February, 1745. Teste: George Blackburn, James and Joseph Douglass, Henry Crisswell, James Trimble, John Bierey. Page 319.--On Tees Creek on Forks of James River.

• Page 379.--19th November, 1776. Alexander Kilpatrick and Mary to Geo. Moffett, 90 acres patented to William Cunningham 12th February, 1755; 30 acres patented 1st August, 1772.

• Page 332.--15th August, 1786. John Poage, of Augusta, and Robert Armstrong, executors of John Archer, deceased, of Greenbrier, to George Moffett.

• Page 28.--20th July, 1790. Robert Armstrong, executor of John Archer, deceased, and George Moffett, to Henry Hermone, part of 2,400 acres patented to John Archer, deceased, 2d March, 1781, and George Moffett, having by mistake received a title.

George Moffett's will - - To wife, Sarah; to daughter, Margaret, to school her two youngest children, Clarissa and Joseph; to son, James (900 acres of Glen Creek, Kentucky, land); son, George (South Elkhorn Survey in Kentucky); son, William; to five married daughters; daughter, Sally; daughter, Margaret (Glen Creek Survey where she now lives); to deceased daughter Martha's daughter, Sally, and son, George (Glen Creek); to daughter Mary's children by her first husband; to deceased daughter Magdalene's children, viz: George, John, Henry, Addison, Samuel, Magdalene; to daughter, Elizabeth, and her son, George; to daughter, Sally; to brother William's widow and children, John, Thomas, Mary; to son George's Maria; to sister, Mary; to Charles Patrick's son, George; to sister, Hannah, and her son, George; to nephew John Patrick's oldest son, to nephew, John M. Estill, and Benjamin Estill's oldest daughter. Executors, son James and nephew Jno. M. Estill. Teste: George Crosby, Wm. Young, Jno. A. Sheete. PRoved, 26th August, 1811. Executors qualify.

• Page 147.--18th April, 1755. Humphrey Madison to John Madison, £82, conveys two bay mares that run at the Falling Spring, one bay mare purchased at sale of Moffett's estate, and 2 colts that run at George Moffett's, 1 bay mare purchased of James Means, one mare purchased of Joseph England, and other various personal property; mortgage. Teste: Francis Tyler.

• Page 231.--18th March, 1760. George Moffett's bond (with Wm. Anderson), as guardian (chosen) to William Moffett, orphan of John Moffett.

• Page 94.--9th October, 1761. Francis McCown's will, farmer-wife, Margaret; sons, George and Francis; son, Malcom, the plantation formerly belonging to Mathew Young; son, James, the plantation in the Forks; daughters, Margaret, Nancy, Katrine; son, James, the plantation Saml. Norwood formerly lived on, and to pay Malcom i5 when come to age of "menuarty"; daughter, Isbell. Seven children. Executors, wife Margaret and son George. Teste: John Cunningham, Wm, McKemey John McNabb. Proved, 18th November, 1761, by the witnesses.--Margaret refuses to execute. George qualifies, with John McCown, Robt. Christian, George Moffett.

• Page 364.--20th November, 1764. James and Mary Trimble's bond (with James Gilmore, Ben. Estill, Geo. Moffett, David Trimble), as administrators of John Trimble.

• Page 423.--20th May, 1765. Walter Trimble and Rosanna ( ) to their son, Robert Trimble, £95, 370 acres on Free Mason's Run, a branch of North River Shanandore. Teste: George Moffet, William Shanan, Robert Gragg.

• Page 513.--27th July, 1766. Thomas Nicliolas (Nickels) and Jean ( ) to John Francis, £41.7, 200 acres on Middle River of Shanandore, oaks in the Naked Land at the foot of a ridge; Wiley's corner, George Moffet's line. Teste: Jno. Poage, Jno. Gillespy. Delivered: Jno. Francis, March, 1768.

• Page 88.--18th March. 1768. George Moffett's bond (with John Christian) as guardian to James Trimble, orphan of John Trimble.

• Page 396.--18th May, 1768. James Hogshead and Elizabeth ( ) to John Hogshead, Jr., 20 shillings. 45 acres on Moffet's branch being part of his father's tract of 400 acres bearing date 1st June, 17.46,; corner said John's line. Delivered: George Moffett, Michael Hogshead, James Allen Delivered: James Hogshead, 25th July, 1770.

• Page 84.--17th November, 1772. John Poage to Rev. John Craig, John Anderson, Robert Poage, Alexander Blair, James Allen, Sr., Alexander Walker, Michael Dickey. James Henderson, Andrew McComb, James Allen, Jr., George Moffett, being the session and regularly chosen for the Congregation of Augusta or Stone Meeting House and appointed as Commissioners to act in behalf of said congregation and to accept and take a title for a tract of 27 acres for the sole use of a Dissenting Presbyterian Congregation as

a place of Public Worship. Patent to John Poage, 14th July, 1769, corner old brick kiln.

• Page 233.--17th May, 1774. James Allen, Jr., and George Moffett's bond (with George Mathews and James Gambel) as administrators of Rev. John Craig.

• Page 72.--19th January, 1776. James Anderson's will--To wife, Jean; to son, John, 5 shillings; to son, George, 5 shillings; to son, James, 5 shillings; to daughter, Agnis, 5 shillings; to daughter, Jane, 5 shillings; to son, Samuel, whole estate; to son Samuel's son, James, 200 acres, infant. Executors. George Moffett and John Young. Teste: John Blair, Isaac Carson. Peter Challe. Proved, 15th June, 1779, by Blair and Carson. Executors refused, administration granted Samuel.

• Page 75.--25th September, 1776. William Christian's will--Executors, "my brothers, Robert and John Christian and Capt. George Moffett"; to son, Patrick, 269 acres whereon Patrick now lives, part of 1614 acres "whereof 538 acres were laid off for my share"; to William Christian (son to Patrick), land, 40 acres of 180 (80) acres; to son, Gilbert; to wife, Mary; the 3,000 acres to which testator is entitled by Proclamation 1763 to be divided between 3 daughters, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Mary. Teste: William Anderson, Patt. Christian, Wm. Scott. Proved, 17th August, 1779, by Anderson and Scott., Moffett refuses to execute; John Christian qualifies.

• Page 104.--16th November, 1779. George Moffett's bond as sheriff.

• Page 127.--25th March, 1780. George Moffett's bond for collection of County levy.

• Page 145.--20th May. 1780. George Moffett's bond for collection of taxes imposed by Act of Assembly passed at Williamsburg 4th October.

• Page 160.--22d November, 1780. Geo. Moffett's bond for collection of County taxes.

• Page 161.--22d November, 1780. Geo. Moffett's bond as Sheriff.

• Page 354.--22d March, 1776. Isaac Carson's will--To wife, Rebecca, and children; to son, Abraham; to 3 daughters, Agnes, Jane, Mary; to child of which wife is now pregnant. Executors, Capt. George Moffett, Wm. Young. Teste: John Bleir, James Scott, Samuel Anderson. 19th August, 1783, Col. Geo. Moffett deposes that 3, 4, days before Carson's death Carson showed him above will and stated he wished it altered because it cut out two children, that he wished them to be made equal with the others. John Poage deposes ditto.
