Civil War veteran--Captured July 1864, as the 111 Illinois Infantry, Company F, was advancing on Atlanta ... their unit was to be the one to raise the flag in Atlanta, GA ... Held prisoner in Andersonville Prison, he escaped only to die in a Chattanooga Hospital of dysentery.
