[edit] Information on George Hudson, Sr.The father of William Hudson was George Hudson, Sr. of Shade Gap,Huntingdon County, Pa. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary Army,serving as a private, 3rd Class, 2nd Battalion (Penna., Archives, 5th SeriesVol. 6, page 160 also 2nd Series Vol. 14, page 473). He was one of GeorgeWashington's scouts on the night of December 25, 1776 when he crossedthe Delaware River with his Army. George Hudson had preceded the armyby several hours and selectd the landing place on the Trenton side andstanding on the bank of the river with his clothes frozen to his back, pointedout to the troops the landing place as they arrived. He was also engagedwith the Hessians at Trenton the next morning at eight o'clock. GeorgeHudson, Sr., was born 1744 and owned a farm of 295j acres in MiddletonTownship, Cumberland County, Pa., where he resided before and duringthe Revolutionary War. He died June 15, 1820. He was married twice.His first wife was Isabella Abernathy, born 1746, died 1773, whom hemarried February 23, 1764. The children to this marriage, 1. Sarah, mar-ried Mr. Davidson; 2. William, married Linda Doyle, resided Three Springs,Pa.; 3. John, married Eleanor Moreland; 4. George, Jr.; married CatherinePollock. His second wife was Isabella Buchanan whom he married May 9,1775. Children to this marriage, 1. Jane, unmarried; 2. Walter Buchanan,married Eliza Barton; 3. James, married Mary Pollock; 4. Joseph, nevermarried; 5. David, married Martha Taylor; 6. Matilda, married WilliamMcNite; 7. Amelia, married George Williams. It is said he was the father of sixteen children. George Hudson, Sr., came to Shade Gap, Pa., where he took up a tract of land and built the first flour and gristmill about the year 1800 and about the same time a woolen mill.
