George Getty's father, Andrew is the son of George Getty and Polly Truax which means that George married his second cousin. Polly Truax is the sister of Mary Ellen's grandmother Juliet Truax.

On the marriage record to Mary Ellen, George declared he was 51 years old, divorced and a U.S. soldier. He made a career of soldiering, re-enlisting as necessary and at times living at the Plattsburg , N.Y. barricks. After Mary Ellen died he lived with Laura A. Wells, listing her as a servant. By 1930 George was an "inmate" at the U.S. Soldiers' Home in Washington D.C. In 1933 he authorized the removal of Mary Ellen to Washington's US Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery where they both can now be found on Find-A-Grave, he listed as a 1st Sgt.
