George H. Faeth

FOSTORIA -- George H. Faeth, 84, of Fostoria OH, died at 7:21 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2005 at Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 8, 1920 in Seneca CO OH to the late Henry and Johanna (Theis) Faeth. He married Margaret M. "Maggie" Frankart on Nov. 23, 1946 in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, and she died Aug. 4, 1991.

Surviving are two daughters, Jane (Bob) Frias, Fostoria; Susan Gardiner, Melbourne, Fla.; six sons, Ronald Faeth, Fostoria; Donald (Jo) Faeth, Fostoria; Richard Faeth, Maine; Wm (Terri) Faeth, Fostoria; Jeff "Bo" (Betsy) Faeth, Fostoria; Patrick (Lori) Faeth, Findlay; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen (Norman) Kromer, Carey; and Viola (Bob) Fisher, Texas.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Alvin "Buddy" Faeth and Anthony Faeth; and three sisters, Lorena Roth, Marie Regan and Rita Zalas.

Mr. Faeth retired 1982 after working 42 years as a machine operator in the Cutter Grind Department at Atlas, Fostoria.

He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council 1197, Fostoria. He was also a member of New Riegel American Legion Post 354. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in "heavy artillery" in the European Theatre. He was a former member the Fostoria United Sportsman and a Meals On Wheels volunteer. George enjoyed the annual PA "hunting" trip with his brother, Buddy, and nephews, and fishing as a pastime. He will be remembered for his quick witted dry sense of humor. He was a great baby-sitter for his grandchildren whom he dearly loved. George enjoyed a good buffet meal, known by his family as the "buffet king," and spent much time listening to WFOB's morning programs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where a rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the New Riegel American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by an American Legion service.

Memorials are suggested to St. Wendelin High School Gymnasium special project "Electronic Flag Fund," to DayBreak of Fostoria or to the Seneca CO Commission on Aging "meals program."
