Frances Smith was married to George Elliott, Jr. 5 May 1794 in Lincoln Co. KY. That part of Lincoln County where the family lived was later in Garrard Co. In her book "Captain George Elliott of the Virginia Navy," Anne Elliott Odell says that Frances was a daughter of Major Francis Smith and Ann Preston. I have not found any confirmation of this. The genealogies I have found of Francis Smith and Ann Preston do not refer to a daughter Ann. However, Captain Elliott served in the militia under Ann's brother and he gave some of his bounty land to Francis Smith.
