Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 52.--30th January, 1761. Mathias Celzar and Renamia ( ), of Frederick County, to George Cutlip, £40, conveyed to Mathias Celsar by Peter Carr and Mary, 1th July, 1754, on Shanando, 120 acres.
  • 22 Aug. 1794, George Cutlip purchased 93 acres in Augusta County, Va.

Land Survey:

  • 1774, 95 acres in Botetourt Co., VA. between Brush Mt. and property of William Stevinson surveyed for George Cutlip.

Greenbrier County, VA:

  • 2 June 1783, George Cutlip purchased 300 acres in Greenbrier Co., Va.

Pendleton County, VA:

  • 3 July 1797, George Cutlip purchased 120 acres on Crab Run, a branch of Bullpasture River from Isaac and Susannah Henkle, Pendleton Co., Deed Book Records, Deed Book 2, pp. 345 - 346.
  • 27 Sept. 1802, George Cutlip purchased 80 acres on both sides of Crab Run, a branch of the Bullpasture River adjoining Cutlip's former land in Pendleton Co., VA. (Sim's Index to Land Grants in W. VA., Pendleton Co., p. 595.

  • Page 91.--21st September, 1773. George ( ) Gutlip and Susanna ( ), of Dunmore County, to John Breeden. Teste: John Schoon, Jacob Woodle
  • 28 Sept. 1795 George Cutlip and wife Mary of Bath Co., VA. sold 200 acres of Greenbrier land in the valley above Spring Creek, adjacent to Callison to Robert Craig and Robert Stepehn fo 150 pounds.

  • 6 Mar. 1811, Benjamin Eagle conveyed to Peter hull, Jr. a deed of trust. Eagle owed 41 pounds 6 shillings, 8 pence to George Cutlip, payable on or before 6 mar. 1812. To secure the debt, he conveyes in trust 2 tracts: 120 acres on Crab Run, a branch of Bullpasture and 80 acres, same location, conveyed to him by George Cutlip. If debt not paid, the land ws to be advertised and sold.

  • 1830 - Pike Co. Census, Beaver Twp., Ohio. Older female enumerated in household of George and Mary Cutlip's oldest son, Samuel Cutlip. Age listed as 60 - 70. Cold be mother Mary (age ca. 68) since Samuel's wife Jane Stewart's parents are both still alive and living together. Or it might be Samuel's half sister, Magdalena who never married (age ca. 62).
