A brickmaking business was purchased for Georg when he married Johanna Kraatz. It started losing workers as Bismarck started pulling all men into the army. When the brick yard ended up without any workers (a matter of days), his family's livelihood was gone and they left for America. They ended up in Winnetka where there was both a brick making yard nearby (in the Skokie lagoons).
