He did not have children, but adopted his wife's daughter. Obituary Geert Laug was born in Northhorn, Germany, August 16, 1860. He came with his parents to this country in September, 1864, and settle in Piqua, Ohio, where they lived three years. The family then came to Coopersville, Michigan, which was then a dense woods. It was here he grew to manhood. In 1879 he went to Spring Lake where he lived about ten years, going from there to Grand Rapids. On October 11th, 1899 he was married to Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Triel. They moved from Grand Rapids to Coopersville, September 1902, and have since made their home here. He made confession of faith and united with the Reformed Church, January 29, 1913. Mr. Laug had been ill for a considerable length of time and was unable to work since December, 1924. He departed this life early Wednesday morning, November 3, at the age of sixty-six years, two months, eighteen days. Mr. Laug is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. John Berkel, of Muskegon; two grandchildren, Phyllis Marion and Dorothy Gene Berkel; and the following sisters and brothers; Harm Laug, and Mrs. Sena Laug, of Coopersville; Mrs. Hanna Le roy of Grand Rapids; John Laug, Mrs. Fanny Wiarda and George Laug, of Coopersville; Mrs. Hattie Duivan of Grand Rapids; and many other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the home with Elder Geert Lubben in charge, and at 2:00 o'clock in the Reformed Church, Rev. H. Hoffa, officiating.
