Records in Augusta County, VA

From Chalkley’s Augusta County Records:

  • Vol. 1 - NOVEMBER 17, 1773. - (226) Garrett Green, hemp certificate.

Notes

Garrett Green migrated to Augusta County likely in the 1760's, probably with his father (not known at this time). A single record for Garrett Green is found in Chalkley's, Vol. 1 in 1773, receiving a hemp certificate, proves his whereabouts during that time period. He appears to have lived in the area of Augusta County that became Greenbrier County, Virginia (later West Virginia) in 1777, as at least four of his children were married there between 1778-1786. His son Henry served in the Revolutionary War in Greenbrier County, Virginia at age 17-18, per his Revolutionary War Service Pension Application (which was rejected due to less than 6 months service). Garrett Green later migrated to Kentucky, where he died in 1810 in Garrard County.
