I can't be more specific than what I related in my first message, because I just don't have the information. I have possible leads, but I haven't investigated them yet. The 1871 census directory for Chicago shows Fred Schlichting as a laborer, living at 82 Foster (Ward 9), born in Germany. An LDS Ancestral File (based on mifrofilm 1512702 and submission #AF95-000240) show a Frederick Schlichting (1MG8-DLN) born in 1817 in Nev Strelitz, Mecklenburg, Germany, with both a Frederick and Amelia as children (among others), but the dates don't match my records. The family apparently settled in Michigan upon immigration. The Germans to America series, vol 21, pages 345-346, shows a Friedrich Schlichting (age 33) immigrating aboard the Ship Capella in 1866. (No connection made to my line.) There are many Friedrich Schlichting names in the LDS IGI for Germany, but no connection has been made to my line.
