Facts and Events
He is recorded as an active participant in the Ulster Co. events of the American Revolution. He signed the Articles of Association in Rochester in 1775, and he held the rank of Ensign in the Ulster 1st Rochester Company from 3 May 1776 and 2nd Lieutenant in Cortright's Company from 21 February 1778. He also was Lieutenant in Captain Hornbeck's volunteer company formed for local defense from Indian and British raids. He was a Trustee of the Town of Rochester in 1790. During the War of 1812, he was appointed Brigadier General of the 23rd Brigade of Infantry on 20 May 1812. Toward the end of that war, after the British burned Washington, there was a great scare that New York City was next. Throughout the state the militia was called out and Frederick Westbrook, as General, led the Ulster Co. contingent. They soon returned without seeing action. References
