| Mrs M. M. Burnes, of Redfern, has received word from the Minister for the Army that her husband, Sgt. Frederick Charles Burnes, died whilst a prisoner of war at Sandakan; Borneo, on May 23, 1945. Mrs Burnes is at present staying with her mother, Mrs Waters, of Victoria St., Taree.

BURNES — In proud and loving memory of my dear husband and Daddy, NX26234, Sgt. Fred Burnes, 2/20th Batn., who died whilst p.o.w., Sandakan, Borneo, 23rd May, 1945. We often think of you, Daddy, And often speak your name. But all we have now Is your picture in a frame. Always remembered by his wife Marg, and children Neville, Margaret and Cynthia, and father-in-law, Mr. Ted Waters.
