Frederick Smyth was in Botetourt. His children were Elijah, Henry, Catherine, John P., Elizabeth and Sayers/Sayres/Sawyers (from deed analysis). He named Sawyers and Elizabeth in his will, She married John McDonald. Frederick's will was dated March 27, 1802 in Montgomery County, Virginia. There are several land deeds there that will help you, including some that involved the Culton families of Rockbridge and Wythe County, VA. From the witnesses to his will, it's hard to know whether he was Scottish or German. They were: Jacob Crider, Henry Hans, Peter Coon, and George McDonald. (Wythe County was formed out of Montgomery County in 1790 and gave a portion as did Washington County for the formation of Smyth County.)
