- The first place my grandfather appears is in the 1870 US census for Howard, Steuben, New York. He's listed as "Savage, Franklin" in the household of Nicholas and Minerva (Rose) Brasted. In the 1875 New York census he's listed as "Brasted, Frank" and as "adopted". I have had no luck in finding his birth parents. He is not listed in the 1865 New York census for Howard, NY. He is not mentioned in the obit of Nicholas Brasted or any of Nicholas' three daughters, and I can't find an obit for Minerva Brasted.
