    Florence Kiel, age 91, passed away peacefully to live with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 28, 2004. She was born April 6, 1913 to Fred and Gertie (Vander Meulen) Stremler in Lynden.
    She lived her entire life in the Northern Whatcom County area and attended North Prairie and Ebenezer Schools.
    Florence went to visit relatives in Michigan during her teenage years and while there met and married Gerrit Ammeraal. They were married for 13 years, farming on the Double Ditch Road near Lynden. When he passed away in 1949, she continued farming for four years. Florence married Harvey Kiel in 1953 and for the next 20 years they lived together at 509 South 17th Street in Lynden. Harvey passed away in 1973 and she continued to live at her home until moving to Lynden Manor in 1998.
    Florence was a life-time church member, in her youth at First Christian Reformed Church in Lynden and later was an active and charger member of the Faith Reformed Church in Lynden.
    She loved to cook and bake and was generous in sharing with others. Flowers and plants flourished with her loving care. She will always be remembered for her cheerful and positive attitude, her love and concern for others. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
    Mrs. Kiel was preceded in death by her husband Gerrit Ammeraal of 13 years, husband Harvey Kiel of 20 years; brothers Simon, Steve, Herman, Henry, Bill and John Stremler and a grandson, Scott Rode.
    Florence is survived by daughter Carol and husband Bill Rode of Bellingham, step-son Boyd Kiel and wife Ellen of Ferndale; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; brother Fred Stremler and wife Gen of Montana and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
    When Florence was 14 years old her mother died and her father married Anna Kingma, bringing more siblings into the family circle. Surviving are brothers Simon , Ralph and Louis Kingma; sisters Martha Loomer and Dorothy Hobson. Sylvia Mady is deceased.
