Facts and Events
Fanny Malinda (Williams) Grove was born in Centerville, App Co., Iowa to Henry Calvin Williams and Mary Ellen "Minnie" Parish. She was named after her grandmothers Fanny Fry (Chatterton) Williams & Malinda (probably Knapp) Parish. The family moved from Centerville, App Co., Iowa to Sheridan County, Wyoming when she was a child. Many years later she would tell the story to the family that as a child she walked besides her parents wagon when they moved from Centerville, App Co., Iowa to Sheridan Co., Iowa. As an adult after her husband left her and her children because of the Great Depression she found a job working as a cook for Mr. Hess in the neighboring county, Johnson County, Wyoming. During World War II she lived in North Hollywood, California and like many women at the time she worked in California as a Rosie the Riveter. Many years later she still received letters from the troops who had flown on the planes she had worked on. She also worked as a LPN in California. References
