Augusta County records and the Bath County book show that Esther Mayse 1st married Robert Burnside who died; she married 2nd Archibald Clendenning Sr. who died in 1749. Esther had two children by her first marriage, James Burnside and Rachel Burnside.

Augusta Co. Court W.B. 1, p. 148, 13 Dec 1748 gives Archibald Clendenning’s will; in parentheses is “of Cowpasture” (a witness is a Wm Dogherty/Dougherty?) Esther Mayse (Burnside) Clendenning, widow and 2nd wife of Archibald Clendenning Sr gave bond as administrator of her husband’s estate, see page 189 in W.B.1, p. 119, Augusta County, VA, 24th August 1749. Esther was a sister of Sarah Mayse. XIII. James Ewing married Sarah Mayse. Remember that Archibald Clendenning Jr. married Ann Ewing, daughter of Pocahontas James Ewing. Clan Ewing Website
