"The submarine torpedo boat Plunger, building for the United States Navy, was launched at noon Saturday from the yard of the Columbian Iron Works, Locust Point. About 2,000 persons witnessed the ceremony. Miss Ernestine Wardwell, daughter of Colonel E. H. Wardwell, christened the boat by breaking a bottle of wine across her bow as she started down the ways. Mr. W. O. Breckenbaugh sang three verses of a song composed by himself to the tune of 'Maryland. My Maryland,' and which was dedicated to the boat, the inventor, Mr. John P. Holland, and to Mr. William T. Malster, President of the shipbuilding company. Mr. Francis Putnam Stevens made an address. Three cheers were given for Messrs. Malster and Holland by the spectators." -Washington Post 04 October 1914

She is also survived by nieces and five nephews including Donald J. Shanklin of Silver Spring, Md. and John W. Shanklin of Colmar Manor, Md. Service at the Takoma Funeral Home, 254 Carroll St. NW on Friday, November 29 at 10 am. Interment Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore, Md. at 12 noon." -Washington Post 28 November 1963
