It has been presumed by some that Emily committed suicide but there is some doubt because my father, Bert Davies said that Emily had been diagnosed with a brain tumor which was the probable cause of the condition that placed her in the mental hospital in Ponoka. There was hope that she could be treated and that is why she was taking a train back to Edmonton on the day of her death.

The following article is from the May 26, 1930 edition of the Edmonton Bulletin Daily newspaper"

Local Woman Falls Under Train, killed

Was coming to Edmonton to undergo slight operation In spite of heroic efforts by a nurse, Mrs. J. Crockett, hospital patient, was instantly killed at 5:27 this morning when she fell under the wheels of the Edmonton-bound train entering Ponoka Station. According to word reaching Edmonton today, Mrs. Crockett was being taken to Edmonton for an operation by the nurse, Mrs. E. Frivek, and the two were standing on the platform when the train from Calgary pulled in. Mrs. Crockett, who had been chatting cheerfully, fell from the platform as the engine of the train drew level. Risking her own life, Nurse Frivik immediately followed her charge to the tracks and escaped death herself by a miracle, coming out with severe lacerations and bruises to her leg. Dr. Campbell was called but said that the victim's death must have been instantaneous. The body was removed to the undertaking parlors and will presumably be returned to Edmonton for funeral. It was said by onlookers that O. Fridal, engineer in charge of the train was powerless to pull up his engine or to do anything else to prevent the tragedy, which occurred with startling suddenness.

The following obituary was in a later edition of the same paper:
