Obituary

FORMER LOCAL MERCHANT PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY

 Elroy Reed, 65, died here unexpectedly early Monday morning.  He was one of the first grocery merchants in Coopersville, having retired a few years ago.  Surviving are the widow, three children, Charles Reed and Mrs. Florence Ives of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Blanche Mosher and a sister, Mrs. Alice Kelly of this place.  Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the residence, the Rev. A. De Young of Grand Rapids officiating.

Obituary

 Elroy Reed was born in Paris township, Kent county, Mich., March 22, 1862, and died Oct. 31, 1927.  He came with his parents to live in Coopersville in 1842.
 He was married to Celeste Harriet Smith, Jan. 26, 1879.  To this union were born five children, Charles, Elroy, Blanche, Florence and child who died in infancy.  Mrs. Reed passed from this life July 31, 1917 and his son Elroy about five years later.
 Nov. 16 1918 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Hattie Platte.  Besides the widow he leaves to mourn their lost three children, ten grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Alice Kelly.
 Mr. Reed's life was so closely interwoven with the surrounding community that he was truly a part of it.  He was a man among men and a friend to all.
