Elmer Clarence Schlitter

Funeral services for Elmer Clarence Lewis Schlitter, 88, Farmersburg, were held Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, with Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Organ music was provided by Priscilla Miene and vocalists were Keith and Dixie Kutzbach. Honorary casket bearer was Rhonda Schlitter. Casket bearers were Franklin Schlitter, Jim Chase, Harold Krambeer, Ross Krambeer, Scott Chase, and Steven Chase. Burial was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, rural Monona, Iowa. Leonard Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Linton Township, son of John and Mabel (Henkes) Schlitter and attended Figgy country school through the eighth grade. He was united in marriage to Margaret Lestina on September 15, 1936. Three children were born to this union. He farmed his entire life.

He served on the election board and the Council Hill Cemetery Board. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing pinochle, and farming with his horses. He died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis., following a brief illness.

Survivors include his two daughters, Carol (Jim) Chase, Farmersburg, and Deanna (Harold) Krambeer, St. Olaf; and one son, Franklin (Sandie) Schlitter, McGregor; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Mount of Waukon, Helen Mielke of Monona, and Ethel Strelow of Volney; and one sister-in-law, Pauline Schlitter of Monona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret on October 27, 1993; two brothers, Donald and Melvin Schlitter; and two sisters, Edna Klotzbach and Delores Wilkins.

Elmer Schlitter, 88, of Farmersburg, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, in Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis., following a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, by the Rev. Dennis Gilbert. Burial: St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, rural Monona. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Survivors include three children, Carol Chase of Farmersburg, Deanna Krambeer of St. Olaf and Franklin Schlitter of McGregor; and three sisters, Marie Mount of Waukon, Helen Mielke of Monona and Ethel Strelow of Volney.
