Elizabeth Gray Turner was baptised on 13th March 1814 at Heckington in Lincolnshire, daughter of Sarah Turner, formerly Allen, and her husband John Turner, a farmer. Her father died in 1839, when she was 25 years old. The 1841 census finds Elizabeth living with her mother and two of her siblings at North Street in Heckington.

Elizabeth was married on 1st February 1843, aged about 29, to a miller named John Almond. He was originally from Heckington, although had been living in the nearby town of Sleaford in the 1841 census two years earlier and at the time of their marriage was said to be living at Billinghay.

After their marriage, Elizabeth and John returned to Sleaford, settling there on South Street, which was presumably the road later called Southgate. John worked as a miller and baker. They went on to have six children at Sleaford between 1844 and 1856, although one boy died as a baby, leaving four girls and a boy who survived infancy.

Back in Heckington, Elizabeth's mother died in 1851.

Each census from 1851 to 1871 finds Elizabeth, John, their children and at least four servants living on South Street. It would appear that John ran his business from a watermill on Westgate in Sleaford and the family lived at 45 South Street. The mill closed in March 1880 in order to be demolished, with an auction of John's machinery and tools being held on 22nd April 1880. John died just a few days later, on 30th April 1880, aged 64.

The 1881 census finds Elizabeth and one of her daughters living together at 20 Jermyn Street in Sleaford, just round the corner from Southgate.

Elizabeth died at Sleaford on 12th February 1887, aged about 73.
