    Elizabeth and her husband Thomas Smith were married in Kentucky and first moved to Illinois in 1819, and to Sangamon County in 1822. After her husband retired from farming they lived in their son John's household. Thomas died there in 1841, and in the 1850 Sangamon County Census, Elizabeth was still living there with their unmarried daughter Sarah.

    Elizabeth and Thomas were parents of ten children: Margaret, wife of Thomas Cummings; Richard C., married to Elizabeth Hart; Thomas, Jr., first husband of Mary Cooper; Hannah, who married Henry Whitlock and moved to Greene County; Elizabeth, married Augustus Kirkpatrick and died in Camp Point, Illinois; John, who married Jane Drennan and after her death married again to Rebecca Enochs; Ruth, wife of Andrew P. Drennan; Mary "Polly" who became the second of William Withrow's five wives; Sarah, who never married; and Samuel, who married his brother Thomas's widow Mary Cooper Smith.

    Several of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are buried in this cemetery.
