Before entering the ministry he (Rev. Samuel Carrick) had married, in Rockbridge County, Virginia, Elizabeth Moore, daughter of Robert Moore of Timber Ridge.

He (Rev. Samuel Carrick) married in 1794 as his second wife, Annis McClennan, of Knoxville. Of Carrick's six children, Elizabeth married Hugh Lawson White. Elizabeth Moore Carrick was buried by the women of the neighborhood at Lebanon churchyard; Annis McClellan Carrick who survived her husband removed with her brother, William to Missouri.
