[edit] Family LegendAccording to a letter by Ross Newland Jr. written about 1984, "Henry Moore, an English sea captain and trader, owner of a small sailing ship, left England with his 16 yr. old daughter Elizabeth Moore. They sailed to the South La. coast and moved up Bayou Teche to trade. There they met a man named John Falque who was supposed to be 1/4 Acadian French. His people had been forced out of Greenland earlier. Elizabeth and John were attracted to each other but Henry Moore would not let them marry because Elizabeth was too young. (Believed to be 16) Two years later the Moore twosome made another trip and this time Elizabeth and John were married. Sea Captain Moore went back to England. The next trip he brougt his wife with him, sold his ship, and lived with Elizabeth and John Falque." Of course, this is family legend and doesn't necessarily correspond to factual history gleaned from public census and marriage records.
